Lauren Takahashi is an assistant professor based in the Department of Chemistry at Hokkaido University, Japan. She has earned a BA in Linguistics at the University of Arizona, an MS in Communication at the University of Gothenburg, and a PhD in Chemical Systems Engineering at the University of Tokyo. Currently, her research involves the development and application of ontology and network analysis towards material design and catalyst-centered research with goals of improving informatics driven experimental design and targeted material development. Her research interests focus on improving the structure, usability, and semantics of materials and catalyst data while exploring potential methods of standardization for materials and catalyst data curation through tactical applications of ontology, graph theory, and data science. She has also co-authored and published a textbook introducing materials and catalysts informatics to students and researchers that are interested in engaging in informatics research but have little to no previous exposure to data science or programming.
